The New Dimension is very proud to bring to you a fun Space Invaders inspired game called "Let's Invade 3", which was originally made as part of the Scene World issue 36 game coding tutorial "Let's Make a C64 Game".  The diskmag is currently delayed, but we are happy to release the game anyway. You can also play the game online.

This game has also been developed to mark the celebration of 30 years since my first ever C64 production that was publicly released in September 1995.

"Let's Invade 3" is the final sequel to the "Let's Invade" series. Unlike "Let's Invade"  and "Let's Invade 2", there aren't many in game strobe effects, nor is there any thumping trance music, but this game continues its tradition of being addictive, and hopefully enjoyed. This game consists of the following:

  • Loading bitmap with loading music (disk and tape)
  • Front end presentation with in game sound options
  • Awesome in game sound effects
  • Hi score table
  • Upbeat space-themed disco tunes
  • 40 addictively challenging levels of invader blasting mayhem
  • Different colour starfields according to level
  • Crazy power ups / power downs
  • Four different alien invaders
  • Return of the mystery "Close encounter" with more bonuses than ever
  • Plenty of mayhem guaranteed to push you to the limit.
  • Compatible on PAL and NTSC C64's. Also compatible with theC64 mini and full size computer, SD2IEC, Ultimate 64, etc.

Instructions

This is a game for 1 player only.

Our galaxy is in danger from a threat of an alien invasion.

Your mission is to battle wave after wave against the alien invaders that come towards you. Unlike the famous Space Invaders, these aliens will behave in a different manner when attempting to reach your area. They can also drop bombs as well.

In order to defend yourself, you can simply blast away the aliens with your hyper laser defence space cannon. You will score points based on the aliens that have been shot. The scoring is as follows:

 100 Points

200 Points

300 Points

500 Points
  Mystery bonus (random)

Beware though, the alien invaders will get angry and move faster per alien shot. The darker the colours, the weaker the aliens are. The lighter the colour, the more hits are required to destroy an alien (which of course will change its colour to a weaker colour).

Shoot orange invaders to gain random power ups or bonus points. These power ups may either be beneficial to your cannon or the aliens themselves.

Shoot purple aliens for a close encounter. This will kill all alien bombs and launch a flying saucer on to the top of the game screen. Shoot the alien saucer dead for a possibilty of scoring extra points, or extra lives.

Completing a level

A wave is complete after you have shot all the alien invaders on that particular level.  Or if you activate a smart bomb power up (which can be awarded to you at random) and you pull down on the joystick to activate it.

Losing lives

Lives are lost in two different ways:

1. An invader's bomb hits you.
2. An alien or group reaches the very bottom of the game area which will cause an invasion.

You have three lives in total and there are 40 waves in which to battle through before you can win the fight.

Can you save the galaxy or will it be too late?

Controls

Plug / setup a joystick into port 2.

Left = Move cannon left
Right = Move cannon right
Fire = Shoot laser
Down = Activate smart bomb (only when the cannon is flashing in red)

Great new game with excellent musics. I've also added it to my new video along with other recently released games. Hope you like it.

Hello, in my last issue of Retro News Flash, I covered the game Let´s Invade 3 and ran a short report on it. It's a really great game, I really liked it.

Nice Space Invaders clone, but it lacks variety and long-term motivation, not least because of the very easy difficulty level. Our German-language review can be found in our recorded livestream starting at 01:27:51. English subtitles are also available. Subscription to our YouTube and Twitch channel is welcome. 🙂

very good

Dear Richard, Wild Wood ci sara' ancora speranza di una release nell' immediato o rischia di fare una "brutta fine" ??

E' trooooppo bello, e' vera arte visiva e sicuramente interattiva !!!

Spero che i ragazzi nel progetto Wild Wood siano ancora attivi !!

I'm not involved with this project, so I do not know to be honest.

E' carino e divertente. Avrei preferito gli fx gli effetti sonori. La musica e' invadente e fastidiosa ! Grazie

There are sound effects in the game. All you need to do is move the joystick to the right to change the music option to sfx on the title screen. :)

Thank you,

I didn't notice !

Aaaw, man... :/ I was awaiting the third part but after trying it out for a bit I'm sadly disappointed. No idea what happened here, but part 3 lacks all the bling the previous 2 parts had.

Without the cool flashing effects it's just not the same, it's what made it stand out. Remove that and you have just an average invaders game.

Sorry if this game has disappointed you. I wanted to try and give it an old retro arcade feeling, so a parallax star field was made to make the invaders much easier to see. There are flashing effects in the game, but that is only when you carry a smart bomb on the level you pick it up - and activate it by pulling the joystick down.
I made this game as part of a game coding tutorial/feature for Scene World. The idea was to try and make things as simple where possible, but still keep the power element features inside.

Ah, ok. I should have read the description more - it's an ok game but not as great as eg part 2 was.

I think without the strobe effects it lacks some cool. Thx anyway I'll try it again a few more times.

Very nice game!
