Zzapped in the Butt - Special Edition [Commodore 64]
The New Dimension is very proud to present you a special edition of Zzapped in the Butt! written exclusively for issue 26 of Zzap! 64 Micro Action magazine's digital covermount.
I decided to revisit Zzapped in the Butt DX! to make a special edition. Due to losing the original source code, I did the hard work by using a machine code monitor on the Action Replay, and patched the code and data together manually. This game also features new sprites and game graphics.
This game is also compatible with PAL and NTSC C64s, theC64 Mini and full size computers, and also SD2IEC devices, since no custom fastload software has been added to this game.
Scenario
!!! DANGER, DANGER, DANGER !!!. An alien mothership has approached planet Earth. Its key goal is to invade the planet and then destroy it. We have engaged in some form of defence to keep the evil alien out, but it had other ideas to plot its invasion. The forcefield just wasn’t powerful enough. Aliens are beaming out from underneath the forcefield. We called in a brave pilot to defend our planet, but nobody was up for the mission. So as a last resort the pilot to save planet Earth is you!
Playing the game
This is a simple shoot ‘em up for 1 player only. The object of the game is to defend the ground defences/buildings from being destroyed by aliens. You can do this by shooting lasers from your fighter jet. Watch out. Avoid crashing into the aliens. Also keep a good eye out for the mothership. It will supercharge and fire out a deadly beam of light (okay, so it is a laser beam, but I think you get the idea).
Losing lives and losing the game
Lives are lost if you crash into the aliens or after you get zapped by the mothership’s laser beam. The game is also lost if all four ground defences have been destroyed.
Completing a level
The key to completing a level is to survive waves of aliens. After the mothership has beamed out the last alien in the current level, it will move away from the game screen. As soon as the mothership has disappeared, a bonus is awarded for every defence that has survived the onslaught of aliens. If you have saved all the ground defences/buildings an extra life is awarded. You will then move on to the next level which will eventually get harder.
Controls
Use a joystick in port 2.
Up / down / left / right / diagonal control - Move fighter jet
Fire - Fire lasers.
There are 32 levels to complete before Earth can be saved once more. Are you brave enough to save the planet or will you end up being Zzapped in the Butt?
